Pumpkin Bread for Parrots: a Recipe

Picture

Ingredients

  • 15 ounce can of organic pumpkin
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 c. applesauce (a snack pack size)
  • 1 tsp. of cinnamon (Ceylon cinnamon for most health benefits), or you can skip adding cinnamon and ginger, and use the canned pumpkin with spices already included
  • 1 tsp. of ground ginger
  • 2 cups OAT or garbanzo bean flour (Bob's Red Mill is one of our favorite brands)
  • 1/2 c. of chopped nuts and/or pepitas and/or unsulphured dried fruits (or unsweetened coconut) are extras

Directions

Stir all ingredients together. Spread in either a cast iron skillet or greased glass cooking pans.
Alternative: Form into cookies and bake on greased cookie sheet.
Bake at 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes for cast iron, 50-60 minutes if glass pan. Cooking times may vary, so just monitor. Test with a toothpick to determine whether it is done.
