Endowment for Sustainability

In most cases, parrots will need a succession of homes, if we take good care of them. We want all of those homes to be good ones. The Phoenix Landing Foundation is committed to every bird that enters our adoption program, no matter how long they live or how many homes they need. For this reason, it is essential for the Foundation to remain a viable organization for decades to come.
To invest in our long-term sustainability, in 2013 the Board of Directors created an unrestricted endowment at the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina (www.cfwnc.org), a non-profit organization created to inspire philanthrophy and mobillize non-profit resources.
We hope this endowment will grow over the years, with your support and help. This will ensure that Phoenix Landing can continue to help the parrots already adopted through us when they need their next homes, as well as many other parrots yet to come -- possibly yours. We want to be there for your bird when you no longer can.

We do our birds a great service when we plan for their futures. No matter how old your parrot is or where they came from, they may need someone else to love and care for them in the future. There are many ways to prepare for your parrot's future:
- Perhaps you know someone who will be a good caregiver and you are taking steps to make legal arrangements. Just remember, finding the next person to care for your bird doesn't mean they can be the bird's last home either.
- Perhaps there is an organization you plan to entrust your bird to upon your death. Please make sure that it is a sustainable organization!
- Perhaps you hope your children will share your devotion to your animals, however, we should never assume our family members will be able or even interested in assuming responsibility. Make sure the person you have in mind honestly agrees to make this commitment.
If you decide to rehome your parrot through Phoenix Landing, our goal is to be here for that bird for the rest of its life. This means checking with the home upon occasion to make sure everything is going well, to rehome that bird if the adopting home can no longer provide care, and to encourage people to join us for our parrot care events on a regular basis. There is always something new to learn.
We hope you will consider supporting the Phoenix Landing Endowment for Sustainability through the CFWNC, or making other arrangements to prepare for a positive future for your parrot!
