Upcoming On-Line Events
Phoenix Landing events are largely held online now. Every month we try to feature a live Zoom event with a special guest speaker. There is always something new to learn and we hope you will join us often! Sometimes the event is recorded and you can find it on our website to view at anytime. We also offer self-paced core classes which address the essential aspects of parrot care such as health, safety, behavior, nutrition, and enrichment. These classes coincide with our adoption process, but they are also available to anyone who is interested in new ideas or continued learning. Details about upcoming events are below.

June 20th, Saturday, 1:00 pm Eastern Welfare Assessment Tool with Andrea Piseddu, PhD Live Zoom Event Are you striving to provide the best quality-of-life possible for the birds in your home? If so, you might be interested in a newly developed Welfare Assessment Tool. As a student at the Centre for Animal Nutrition and Welfare, University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna, Andrea Piseddu developed a science-based parrot welfare assessment tool, just published in the scientific journal, Animal Welfare. His goal is to improve the welfare of companion parrots by helping parrot owners to increase their knowledge and learn how to better monitor their parrot's behaviors and needs. Dr. Piseddu consulted with a wide range of experts from different professional points of view (veterinarians, behaviorists, welfare orgs, zoos, etc). This new tool is a robust and comprehensive view of the ways parrots may live in our homes, the kinds of opportunities we can give them or perhaps even deprive them of, and gives us tips on how to make positive changes for their long-term health and welfare. This tool will soon be readily available to the public and the parrot community! |

August 22nd,, Saturday, 1:00 pm Eastern Bee Power at Home: Easy Apitherapy Remedies with Joerg Mayer, DVM Live Zoom Event Dr Mayer's target Audience include pet bird owners (parrots, cockatiels, budgies, pigeons, backyard chickens, etc.). His goal is to give us simple, safe, evidence-backed ways to start using bee products at home — as complementary support for immunity, wounds, digestion, and everyday wellness. Bees create these amazing substances: • Honey — nectar turned into enzyme-rich liquid. • Propolis — “bee glue” from tree resins — nature’s antibiotic. • Bee pollen — nutrient-packed granules collected from flowers. • Bee bread (perga) — fermented pollen + honey + bee enzymes — the super-bioavailable version. • Royal jelly — queen bee food, packed with special proteins and fatty acids. All these share superpowers: antibacterial, antiviral, immune-boosting, and gut-friendly. They’re affordable, shelf-stable (with proper storage), and birds often love the taste when mixed creatively. Poultry and quail studies — which translate beautifully to pet parrots — show measurable benefits in immunity, wound healing, and stress reduction. Let’s dive into the remedies! Dr. Mayer is a Professor of Zoological Medicine in the Department of Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at the University of Georgia. He has developed an expertise on how bees and apitherapy can be used as an added tool for prevention and treatment. |
