Costa Rica is home to the endangered and very special Great Green Macaw; as well as scarlet macaws, red lored Amazons, red fronted and olive chinned parakeets (known to us as conures), and the white capped pionus.  Sometimes we can spot Mealy Amazons, sulfur winged parakeets, and brown hooded parrots.

The Republic of Costa Rica in Central America is known for its incredible biodiversity. The people, known to themselves as “Ticos,” have elected to honor and protect their native lands and animals through their laws and national parks. This desire to respect nature and its many species is now embedded in their culture. The population has a 97% literacy rate because they also highly value education, a decently paid workforce, and a stable democracy. It is an amazing country, a global model in many ways. In 2017, National Geographic named Costa Rica as the happiest country in the world. Pura Vida, literally meaning pure life, is a common phrase amongst the Ticos.

Costa Rica is also geographically interesting because it borders the Caribbean Sea to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west. Between shores, there are mountains, and active volcanoes, and a quarter of the central area is comprised of protected jungles. It has a year-round tropical climate, with wet and dry seasons. Ecotourism is a major industry in Costa Rica for good reason, and it remains one of the safest countries in Latin America for travel. English is widely spoken.

TESTIMONIALS:
Our 2025 trip to Costa Rica was a kaleidoscope of unique, colorful experiences.  It's an amazing opportunity to see parrots and a wide variety of wildlife "close up and personal".  Our local guide was exceptional.  He arranged for our small group to enjoy authentic meals while meeting local Costa Ricans as we traveled across the country.  We highly recommend this adventure and appreciate Phoenix Landing for sponsoring this and other trips for the benefit of conservation efforts. ~ Jill

Our Phoenix Landing Eco Tour to Costa Rica was truly unforgettable. Each day brought a new adventure, from spotting magnificent Great Green Macaws and observing sloths in their natural habitat to the adrenaline-pumping thrill of zip-lining through the forest. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable, always eager to share insights and answer our questions. Photography opportunities were everywhere - abundant wildlife and dramatic landscapes. Truly a worthwhile experience, especially for anyone who loves nature, wildlife, and capturing breathtaking moments.  ~Mary

The Costa Rica trip exceeded my expectations in every way. We visited so many beautiful locations. There truly was a little something for everyone. It was amazing to see great green macaws, scarlet macaws, amazons, conures, toucans, sloths, monkeys, iguanas, and so much more. It is obvious a lot of expertise, knowledge, thought, and coordination went into the planning of the trip, and the entire group benefited tremendously as a result. The trip was a perfect balance of relaxation and adventure, education and awe. I will always cherish my memories of Costa Rica.  ~ Michelle
